Another Reason Kerry Healey is Unqualified - Housing

Thanks to Mitt Romney and Kerry Healey’s failed housing policies, working families in Massachusetts are struggling to realize the dream of homeownership.

Single family home sales plummeted in the last few months, falling more than 10 percent between April and June, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.
At the same time, other northeast states like Maine and Vermont have seen home sales rise.

Meanwhile, housing prices remain tremendously high. Massachusetts has the third highest housing costs in the nation, and residents have seen their property taxes soar over the last three years.

Affordable housing is the number one issue Massachusetts residents are grappling with,” Massachusetts Democratic Party spokeswoman Cyndi Roy said. “Kerry Healey is helping put the squeeze on the middle class in this state.”

Kerry Healey isn’t qualified to help working families afford to purhcase their own homes, and she knows it. In June, she pulled out of a housing forum in Boston where she would have been forced to defend the adminsitration’s abysmal record. In 2003, Kerry Healey and the administration pledged to double single-family housing starts, a promise that remains unfufilled.

Kerry Healy conducted research for the U.S. Department of Justice related to child abuse, domestic violence, gang violence, victims and witness intimidation. Now she is responsible with the local finance and budget issue. Maybe it was better if she remains in Justice Department.

sly. I too have no doubt she is a competent lawyer, and I do like her positions on a lkot of things... she is totally qualified for many jobs, but I highly doubt she has a shot at winning the upcoming Governors race, and i really wonder why she is Lt. Gov.

As for housing, no kidding. I'm waiting to buy a house until all the nervous boomers have cashed out and the market is back within reason. Unelss I come into some serious money, I'm a renter for a while yet.

as for the anonymouse.

so she is or is not at fault?

Someone needs to go outside and get some fresh air. Of course, if someone were in Massachusetts and went outside, it very likely they would find the air to be fresh.

I can't say that about a lot of places where so many people live so close together.

Quality Costs Money.

you just do whatever you want to your state, and we're familiar with what you 'think' about ours.

In the meantime, I got the worlds smallest fiddle playing for your out of state opinion on our tax policy.

g'nite now.

True - look at the Big Dig. Massachusetts is a left wing joke. High taxes, people leaving, business leaving, etc. If there ever was a poster state for failed Liberal policies Mass is it.

Any state that elects slimeballs like Teddy Kennedy over and over should be ashamed.

Blaming a powerless Republican Governor for decades of failed Liberal policies is even more pathetic.

Your state is a mess.

Time to bring in Gabrieli. I think we need a governor that is in the middle. He is not overly liberal and he is focust on results.I'm a republican but in this race I'm a democrat for Gabrieli. Healy must go.

It doesnt matter if Gabrielli is Liberal or not. Everyone overlooks one HUGE fact - the legistlature is almost %100 Liberal Democrats. Pat Buchanan could be the Governor and IT WONT MATTER. The Liberal House and Senate can pass ANY legislature they want. They can over ride ANY Governors veto with a HUGE majority. Look at the crap Mitt had to put up with when dealing with these Moonbat Libs.

The good news is this Liberal state is failing miserably with both people and business voting with their feet. Until the voters reject idiots like Teddy Kennedy, Kerry, Jim McGovern, Bill Delahunt, Ed Markey, etc IT DOES NOT MATTER who is the Governor.

Romney was smart to flee this Liberal hell hole along with 190,000 other educated professionals.

Or the gunpowder smell to be fresh in Dorchester where Liberal gun buy back programs are stemming the .....oh wait...crime is rising ...never mind..looks like the Mumbles Liberal policy if Target gift cards is failing?

*gasp*!! What a shock! I wonder why people are fleeing Mass in droves? Must be the fact we had a powerless Republican as Gov..ya..thats the ticket!!

I don't even know where to begin, but...Let's start with refuting the false claim that Kerry Healey is a lawyer. She isn't, she has no law degree and has certainly never argued a case in court. She's a criminologist, which is like saying that a degree in theology makes me the pope, or that a degree in business makes me a CEO. No practical experience.

I can't wait until a year or so from now when all you Duval supporters will be kicking your rear ends for supporting him, when your taxes have gone through the roof and your cities are overrun by illegal aliens who are ramming into everyone because they have drivers licenses and no way to pay for any damage and mr. softy has more and more criminals running around loose.
When you all have to pay for their free medical care and free housing and cut rate tuition.
Will most of you be joining the mass exodus because you can't afford to live here anymore? I believe you will.

I live in Waltham, MA.

The attacks on Healey were a disgrace to "liberal" Democrats. The most gender-specific and unfair press I have ever read or heard. You would think with their policy positions they would have behaved at least a little better towards the first woman running for Governor of Massachusetts in her own right. Oh, the daily hagiographies about "For-it-all" Deval Patrick from the Boston Globe and all local media! Sickening.

We've lost population for four years in a row. The people and businesses are voting with their feet. There is no real debate, except for liberal massachusetts democrats who blame everything that happens in a state with two republicans on those two individuals. Nobody, and I mean nobody, buys this outside Massahusetts. Provincial, arrogant attitudes are a Masschusetts stock-in-trade.

D. Patrick's inauguration celebrations cost four times what Romney's cost and will last three times as long. Mr. Grass-Roots coalition charged $100/head. The word for it is poseur. He is inexperienced, a tool of the unions and government, and will be a spectacularly ineffective governor. Taxes will rise, affordable housing will go down, and illegal immigration and crime will rise. This is all completely transparent to those outside Massachusetts.

The standard answer to all problems in Massachusetts from 90% of the residents is to blame it on the hated, evil Bush and Romney. The Kerry Healey attacks were just plain old sexism. Democrats only respect the experience of Democratic women, it seems. Kerry's respectable accomplishments were roundly - and startlingly unfairly - panned by a local press and government which is virtually united in one single opinion on all public policy issues. Such uninimity of opinion usually suggests lazy, lemming-like intellectual glaciation.

Fresh air? One of the most galactically stupid things I've heard. We have environmental catastrophies on a regular basis, like poisioned water in Boxborough, brown drinking water in Acton, and exploding gas tanks in Danvers. Go for a swim in the Charles, anyone? anyone? How about Walden Pond in Concord? Maybe if you like the taste of uric acid. Everytime I pick up a newspaper there is a new, local story about environmental mismanagement.

The workforce exodus here and the high housing costs are not going to be addressed by more condescending libral democratic pap from the ivory-tower psuedo-intelligensia, comprised of college professors, government employees represented by unions (D. Patrick's leashkeepers), lawyers and their ilk.

The housing collapse alone will keep mass. underwater until the end of the decade. Those of us actually from Massachusetts know this.

The "Liberal" (it must be placed in quotes) Democratic policies of Massachusetts (no time here to talk about gay marriage and the unintended effect which will be that gay marriage will be banned across huge swaths of the country - permanently, effectively invalidating a mass. gay marriage) will serve as a herald of what can happen when one party rules all branches of state and local government.

We moved to Kentucky, and 5 months later we closed on a 4 bedroom 2 bathroom house with three acres, a pond and a barn. If we both worked 80 hours we could barely afford a condo, which by the way is a 2 bedroom apartment with a dishwasher that you can paint, and we would never be home to see it. I say flee Mass. We left all of our friends and family behind but we are so happy here, not living in an apartment and having to put up with all the troubles that go along with that situation. I stay home with my three kids and my husband works 45 hours a week. We actually get to enjoy our house, and our family.
