Healey admits she can't build the ranks

Funny how words come back to haunt you, sometimes.

Running for LG in 2002, Kerry Healey told a reporter for the Boston Globe about her failed attempt at building the membership of the Harvard Republican Club.

''I was membership secretary,'' she said, ''and I don't think I was very successful in increasing membership.''

Fast-forward a few months later to the point where Kerry Healey knocks Jane Swift around.

The candidates were also asked what Gov. Jane Swift should have done differently during her administration.

Healey said Swift should've worked harder to strengthen the state Republican Party.

"We have not devoted enough time to party building. We need two parties in Massachusetts," Healey said.

If elected, Healey said she'd make it a "priority to restore two-party government."

Well, it's indisputable. Kerry Healey just can't get the job done. Kerry Healey and Mitt Romney proved in 2004 that they just don't have what it takes to get residents to join the Republican ranks when their $3 million bid for the Legislature blew up in their face. Now, take a look at the lack of Republican candidates running for the Legislature this time around. Or how about the fact that there are virtually no Republicans running statewide?
The Republican Party is in trouble. And it's up to Kerry Healey to save it?

I'd be worried....

That article says she was membership secretary of the Harvard Republican Club during college, which would make it the Harvard College Republicans. The Harvard College Republicans have had the largest club in the state for many many years, and as far as I knew when I followed CR things, they had one of the largest clubs in the country.

Kerry Healey has been very influential with the Young Republicans in Boston, which has doubled its membership in the past year. The YRs in the state probably dwarf the Young Dems in actual members. Not many young people in MA like to admit they are Dems, for obvious reasons, so it is understandable that their membership is low.

Why is the Iraq War Resolution that was passed at last year's convention virtually BURIED on the Massdems' website?

Is this what those running the state party think of the issue?

The resolution should either be a part of the platform itself or it should be prominently displayed right next to the platform. It is highly likely that a very strong majority of Democrats and independents in Massachusetts agree with the Resolution. Why is it BURIED???
